Unity Protestant Reformed Church was organized in October 2019 as a daughter congregation of Byron Center Protestant Reformed Church. The formation of a daughter church had been discussed at Byron Center PRC for some time, but the process began in earnest on February 20, 2019, with an informational meeting for those interested in possibly joining the daughter church. On July 7, 2019, approximately 50 families and 9 individuals began worshipping separately at Zion Christian School, under the supervision of Byron Center PRC. The group continued worshipping together and was officially organized as a separate congregation on October 30, 2019, with 65 families and 16 individuals. Our congregation belongs to the denomination of the Protestant Reformed Churches in America. We were founded as a separate Reformed denomination in 1924 and stand in the tradition of the Protestant Reformation of the 16th century. The PRCA have officially adopted the three historic Reformed creeds known as the Three Forms of Unity: the Heidelberg Catechism, the Belgic Confession, and the Canons of Dordt. We believe these creeds accurately summarize the teachings of Scripture. We are currently holding worship services at Zion Christian School (7555 Byron Center Ave, Byron Center MI 49315) until the Lord provides us with our own place of worship. Our Pastor On August 23, 2020, Rev. Garrett Eriks was installed as our first pastor. Rev. Eriks graduated from Dordt College in 1995 and from the Theological School of the PRCA in May 1999. He has previously served in churches in Loveland, CO and Hudsonville, MI. |
